Region Free

Physical discs for the Xbox One are 100% region free. Additionally, if you insert an out-of-region Xbox 360 or Xbox game that is on the backwards compatibility list into your console, the Xbox One will download the necessary files for the game to run for your console’s region, irrespective of where the source game is from – i.e. a US version of Halo 2 inserted into a European Xbox One, will download the European Halo 2 files.

However to get digital titles from out-of-region, you’ll need to make an account of the relevant region, and have a way to buy that region’s point cards – the easiest way to do this is from an online store that will ship American/Japanese point cards internationally.

It is worth noting that movies/music are region locked, but not covered by the scope of this guide.
